Finds and Interests
One of the things I enjoy most about my work at WorthPoint is keeping an eye on what our Industry Partners are bringing to the auction block. Every day, something remarkable surfaces. I especially like seeing items that aren’t just collectibles but genuine pieces of history. When I spotted this promo record of the Beatles’ hit “Love Me Do” from Omega Auctions, I knew it was something our users would want to see.

If you have some old vinyl records kicking around in a closet, make sure you go through them really well. The key bits on this record are the condition, which, for its age, was remarkable, even including the original sleeve, and that it represents the beginning of a band that would become one of the most recognized groups in history. There is a misspelling, which is rare on promo items, and will always generate interest. This rare record, in remarkable condition, recently sold for $7,894.05—a significant result that reflects just how much collectors value the combination of rarity and condition.
This record was a promotional copy, something the label used to market the band to radio stations and venues as they were climbing the pop charts. If you compare it to sports cards, it’s somewhat of a musical “rookie card” for a band that would go on to shatter records all over the world. The Beatles still hold the record for the most Number 1 Singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with twenty chart-toppers to their name.
Beatles fans and collectors had a keen interest in this sale, as another item that went under the hammer was also a standout. An original UK mono pressing of The White Album with a very low serial number, including promo photos and poster inserts, sold for $4,118.64, a result that was undoubtedly driven by its condition and rarity. Collectors can spend hours sifting through estate sales and auction listings, but it can pay off when finding a treasure like this piece.
