Finds and Interests
At WorthPoint, we are, first and foremost, a comprehensive research site for collectors, sellers, dealers, and anyone in the vintage and antiques space. We try our best to serve anyone who wants to learn, grow, and be a part of a vibrant community that seeks to value, document, and preserve the past.
Over the years, I’ve collected everything from furniture to art to fine jewelry and am passionate about learning more about the items I come across. When I started to find photos to collect, I was lucky enough to come across the collection of Fred Bodin, who photographed hundreds of scenes growing up in the fishing village of Gloucester, MA. Through his photography, he documented decades of history, and after he passed away in 2015, I acquired his collection, which includes thousands of photos of his work and others. These photos bring the past into focus, showing us the daily struggles, celebrations, and lives of a wide range of people.
I’ve taken many of the glass negatives to be restored, expertly curated, and cataloged so that future generations can learn about the past. Preservation is essential; photographs can be delicate, as can glass negatives, so it’s crucial to properly care for these treasures so we don’t lose the connection they provide to the early days of a fishing village, its people, places, and property.
You can view my History in Photographs (HIP) site here. High-quality prints of many images are available for purchase. I’ve also managed to find experts to tell us details about the photos. From the clothing to the surroundings, each photo has a story to reveal, and we’re working towards learning more so we can share that information with today’s community of history buffs and photograph collectors. This short guide provides information for anyone just getting started in collecting images.
What do you see in these photos? If you have similar shots, I would love to know about them. Contact me on LinkedIn or here on the blog to talk more, and feel free to share some of your own shots.
