Our WorthPoint Price Guide updates daily, with thousands of new items streaming in from our Industry Partners. As we fine-tune our data download process, sometimes data streams in from an auction that isn’t as recent as some, and these Navajo rugs are an example of that. I like to try to single out a few of my favorites to share with our followers. There’s usually a good story behind so many of these pieces, and sharing my passion for antique and vintage items is the best part of my job. Let me tell you about an interesting sale that showed up in a past auction from one of our partners.

A standout for design, condition, and provenance, this authentic Navajo blanket went under the hammer at Hall’s Auctions, bringing in $24,0000.

Celebrity auctions can be exciting, giving collectors and fans a glimpse inside the lives of their favorite actors, musicians, and other celebs. Recently, we added some historical data from our valued Industry Partner, Hall’s Auction Services. Included in that selection were several Navajo rugs from the estate of Canadian folk singer Ian Tyson.

The sale was notable for many reasons, and any auction featuring a musician or actor will always attract fans eager to see it, as well as collectors and dealers. Seven rugs sold for nearly $90,000, driven by strong demand for quality pieces and a knowledgeable curation of phenomenal items. Collectors could tell immediately that they were not reproductions, but a carefully assembled collection. In the number one spot was a rug that might not have been the largest at only 4’11” x 4’6″, but with a classic geometric design in bold colors and, of course, the strong provenance to Ian Taylor, it fetched $ $24,000 in August of 2024.

Finding the hidden gems in these sales feels like a treasure hunt to me, even if I am not the one purchasing them. Check out our Price Guide to see more standout Navajo rugs from this auction and from the many auction sales in our database.
