I look forward to seeing what exciting items have gone under the hammer at auctions held by our
WorthPoint Industry Partners. Our Price Guide updates daily, with thousands of new items
streaming in, and I always try to highlight a few of my vorites to share with our followers.
There’s usually a good story behind so many of these pieces, and sharing my passion for antique
and vintage items is the best part of my job. Let me tell you about an interesting item that one of
our partners recently auctioned.

Every now and then, an image becomes iconic. Famous news photos, like the sailor kissing a
nurse in Times Square or a picture of a president in his last moments, are well-known, but
sometimes, an image is famous for its popularity with a generation of teens and other fans. In her
early career, Farrah Fawcett posed for a photo on a poster that would come to represent all that
made her famous. Her hair, which millions copied, her dazzling white smile, and her bathing suit
combined to jettison Fawcett to bedroom wall fame.

Selling for nearly four times the amount of earlier similar
posters, this poster came directly from Ms. Fawcett’s personal collection.

A recent auction of Hollywood treasures by Julien’s Auctions, one of our valued WorthPoint
Industry Partners, perfectly illustrated a truism in auction and vintage sales: Sometimes, it’s not
what something is but who it once belonged to that imparts value and causes a result that is well
above a normal expected price. The Farrah Fawcett poster is world-famous on its own, but no
one could have imagined that it would sell for over $22,0000. However, this particular poster
came from her personal belongings, so collectors were clamoring for the chance to own it.

The sale was part of Julien’s Hollywood Legends: A Day of Classic Hollywood auction in June,
featuring over 400 lots of rare items, including scripts, awards, costumes, and clothing from a
diverse range of Hollywood legends, and the poster was undoubtedly one of the items that had
buyers buzzing for the chance to own something from the Fawcett’s personal collection.
According to Martin Nolan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Julien’s, the poster came
from a private dealer. The auction house, known for its experience with Turner Classic Movies
and other celebrity auctions, knew it was a special piece, and they were right.

Nolan told WorthPoint, “This one came directly from Farrah’s personal files. She was given a
group of them back in the 70s when they were printed. This was sold at her estate auction a
number of years ago. The buyer who bought them then had them slabbed up individually and
graded to re-sell, so this is one of them from Farrah’s own collection.” Experts at CAG evaluated
it and graded it for authenticity and condition, and when the bidding began, it was fast and
furious.

While the poster likely hung in millions of homes, having one that belonged to the subject of the
photo makes it extra special. Most copies of the poster would not sell for this much, as the
WorthPoint Price Guide shows. Earlier sales of other personally owned copies from Ms. Fawcett
all sold for under $5,000.

Fawcett passed away from cancer in 2009, but her image as a television star and teen heartthrob
will live on, especially for collectors and fans of entertainment memorabilia.
